His granddaughter’s boyfriend was discovered dead from an overdose in Whittaker’s home and his granddaughter was discovered dead from an overdose at a friend’s home after she was reported missing, Whittaker was accused of driving under the influence and he was sued by Caesars Atlantic City club for bouncing 1.5 million dollars worth of cheques to cover betting losses. By 2006 Whittaker said he was penniless.
A major high-roller, David Edwards managed to spend 12 million dollars in his first year after hitting the winning lotto combinations. After buying a Learjet, mansions, his own fleet of vehicles and wasting untold amounts of money, David died penniless at just 58 years old.
Doris Murray’s dreams appeared to be working out when she became super wealthy, hitting the Georgia state lottery with a $5,000,000 win. Not like some other lotto winners who waste their cash, the mother of four stayed under the radar and kept on living unobtrusively. She didn’t have the best of judgment regarding men and after threatening to leave her partner he fatally wounded her only a year after she won the lottery.
Craigory Burch jr. landed a half a million dollars from the Georgia Lottery in November of 2015. Only two months later, he was discovered dead in his home from a shotgun wound. After a savage home attack, armed looters entered his home demanding cash. As his sweetheart ran for help during the theft, Bursh begged them not to kill him before his children. He told them they could have his bank card, however when the thieves could not discover his wallet, they shot him and fled. Sadly, Burch appeared to be a genuine good guy and had used a portion of his almost $500,000 to purchase Christmas presents for the less lucky
Evelyn Adams won the New Jersey lottery not once, but twice – in only four months. Her winnings were paid out in annuities; however she was an habitual gambler and also gave huge sums to loved ones. By 2001, Adams had ran out of cash and was living in a trailer.
Keith Gough appeared to be an extremely pleasant person. In the wake of winning an astounding 9,000,000 pounds UK, Keith pulled out all the stops to spend it all. Bud had a run in with his brother who attempted to put out a contract on the lives of Post and his 6th wife. In 1993 Post said everyone fantasies about winning the lottery, yet no one understands the issues that suddenly appear when you do get the winning lotto numbers. Post was found guilty of shooting a shotgun at a man who had gone to his Oil City house to collect overdue debts. After serving time, he was apparently living on a $450 monthly welfare cheque. He had six relationships that finished in separation and defaulted on some loan repayments. Post died of respiratory failure aged just 66.
William Hurt – inside two years of winning the Michigan lottery, Hurt was separated, poor and accused of homicide in the death of an elderly person in a supposed battle about cocaine. Witnesses said the couple had been drinking and taking medications for two days before Hurt killed her.
Victoria Szell won the Minnesota Powerball bonanza with her hushand – while they were in the process of divorcing! Zell was accused of possession of methamphetamines twice in 2005. She spent a whole day drinking and using cocaine and told travelers in her SUV that she would show them the best way to drive crazy. She ran two stop signs, rolling the SUV and killing one of the passengers and paralysing the other. She was condemned to seven and a half years in jail and settled a common claim for more cash that she had left.
Billy Bob Harrell Jnr purchased homes and vehicles for a few relatives and made sizable gifts to his congregation after winning the Texas lottery. But Harrell went through cash at an alarming rate that put a strain on his marriage and he and his wife parted only 20 months after winning the lottery. Harrell committed suicide but Time magazine reported that relatives contested the idea that Harrell could have submitted suicide. Harrell told a financial consultant just before his demise that winning the lottery was the worst thing to ever happen to him.
